Inktober 2021

I actually did it this year! Lets take a look at some highlights

I actually participated in Inktober after so many have passed me by. Now having gone through it, I realize it would have been very difficult to pull off with my previously demanding job. So I'm not feeling too sore about it taking so long.

It's been a great experience overall. There is a certain level of confidence I've gained from daily drawing. Not just drawing, but challenging myself to deliver a finished piece by the end of each day.
I wasn't always successful. There are a couple of pieces I was unable to fully finish. As well, two days I did not deliver on any sort of drawing were for the prompts for various reasons. Still, by the end of the month I'm left with 29 total pieces, 27 of which are considered fully finished. There are some I'd enjoy re-doing in a different media or would like to continue adding-on to it. It's exciting to have a few things like that lined up to work on.

Dream of the Endless

I'm not huge on fan art, but it can be fun to dip into every once in a while. For the prompt "Helmet", Dream from Neil Gaiman's graphic novel series "The Sandman" was the first thing that came to mind. I had recently listened to Act 2 of the audio book, so I think it was at the forefront of my mind for that reason. This piece was done on a day where everything just came out naturally. I didn't over think. I didn't struggle. It just happened and that is such a wonderful feeling. I suppose I like this one so much not only because it turned out well, but because I had such a positive personal experience making it.

Albo Monstera Python

This was the last drawing I completed as part of Inktober, in addition to the only combination piece I did. I loved this one for similar reasons to the Dream one, in that so much about it came naturally.

The first part of this piece was done for the prompt "Patches", in which I drew an albo monstera. It was satisfying to incorporate house plants into something. It was also helpful to get practice on plants and foliage. For the next prompt, "Slither", I added in the snake portion. He was actually added on the same day around 2am while I was oversaturated in caffeine and unable to sleep. Isn't that how it always goes?

The Shibas

I created two pieces that featured Shiba dogs. One for the prompt "Collide", and the other for the prompt "Crispy". On both occassions, I just felt like drawing shibas and found a way to make it work around the prompt. The ramen one is my favorite of the two. I can't recall having drawn much, if any, food related items in the past.

The Buns

Of course, there were bunnies. There will always be bunnies. My two favorites being the sleeping bunny in a monstera adansonii plant for the prompt "Sprout" and a rendition of my own bunny in the sky as the constellation lepus for "Connect". It's always emotional to draw something related to my own bunny. This was no exception.
